Winter Light

‘Winter Light – Golau Gaeaf’ is a creative collaboration between Walk the Plank and Illuminos video projection specialist, commissioned by Conwy County Borough Council, Venue Cymru and Conwy Arts Trust and supported by Arts Council Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government.

The first two chapters of the ‘Winter Light – Golau Gaeaf’ story were told over two evenings in November and December 2019. We estimated that 15,000  people travelled from all over the country to watch the magical, mysterious and theatrical winter procession held in the centre of Llandudno. The first chapter saw the unveiling of the ‘Ychen Bannog’ a legendary, steam-breathing Ox-like beast of the Orme.

The ‘Ychen Bannog’ was part of a parade made up of a bizarre cavalcade of beasts, masked monsters, a Viking ship and a lost circus troupe from Llandudno’s glory days as a Victorian seaside destination. The parade featured lots of local people / local groups who were recruited as torch bearers and monster catchers / monsters.

Chapter Two took place a month later in December when Illuminos continued the story with ‘The Mermaid’s Purse’, a series of stunning video projections on to a strip of buildings facing North Western Gardens.

Golau’r Gaeaf

Mae ‘Winter Light – Golau Gaeaf’ yn gydweithrediad creadigol rhwng Walk the Plank ac Illuminos, wedi ei gomisiynu gan Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy, Venue Cymru ac Ymddiriedolaeth Celfyddydau Conwy, ac wedi ei gefnogi gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru a Llywodraeth Cymru.

Cafodd dwy bennod gyntaf y stori ‘Winter Light - Golau Gaeaf’ eu hadrodd dros ddwy noson ym mis Tachwedd a mis Rhagfyr 2019.  Roeddem yn rhagweld bod 15,000 o bobl wedi teithio ar draws y wlad i weld yr orymdaith hudol, chwilfrydig a theatraidd yng nghanol Llandudno. Roedd y bennod gyntaf yn cynnwys dadorchuddio’r ‘Ychen Bannog’, bwystfil tebyg i ychen ar y Gogarth. 

Roedd yr ‘Ychen Bannog’ yn rhan o orymdaith a oedd yn cynnwys gorymdaith o fwystfilod, angenfilod gyda masg a llong Llychlynwyr a chwmni syrcas ar goll o ddyddiau Llandudno fel cyrchfan glan môr Fictoraidd.  Mae’r orymdaith yn dangos llawer o bobl leol / grwpiau lleol oedd wedi eu recriwtio i gario ffagl a dalwyr bwystfil / bwystfilod.

Roedd Pennod Dau yn cael ei gynnal fis yn ddiweddarach, ym mis Rhagfyr, pan oedd Illuminos, yn parhau gyda stori ‘Pwrs y Fôr-forwyn’, cyfres o dafluniau ar hyd adeiladau sy’n wynebu Gerddi’r North Western.
